Plié AJ Balance
Story of Plié & Pilates
Plié is a French word used in classical ballet that means to “bend your knees”. It is the most essential movement and indispensable to all movements in ballet.
I was a girl who fell in love with classical ballet and I found Pilates through it.
As Plié is an important movement in ballet, Pilates is part of my life now and motivates me to keep a healthy body, mind, and good life balance.
I hope Pilates brings you wellness and a fulfilling journey.

About Me
Hello, my name is Asami. I was born and raised in Japan.
I lived in Vancouver, BC, for almost 7 years before moving to Montreal, Quebec, in October 2024. I’ve been practicing classical ballet since I was a child and continued until 2020. During the pandemic, I discovered Pilates. Interestingly, I had actually been doing Pilates at the ballet studio without realizing it because my teachers referred to it as "ballet stretch" or "warm-up class." Since then, I’ve developed a strong interest in Pilates and became a certified instructor through BASI Pilates. |
BASI Pilates
BASI Pilates (Body Arts and Science International) was founded in 1989 by Rael Isacowitz, who studied and taught under several of ‘the Pilates Elders’; first-generation teachers. BASI Pilates has been at the forefront of setting professional standards for the Pilates method worldwide.
BASI Pilates emphasizes science-based body movements, the beautification of movement, and is rooted in the work of Joseph and Clara Pilates.
I chose BASI Pilates not only because of its global recognition but also for the beauty of body movement it embodies, which likely stems from my background in classical ballet. Additionally, the BASI Pilates community spans the globe, allowing practitioners to connect and learn the standardized BASI methods no matter where they are.
